About Khmer Font

Khmer or Cambodian is the language spoken by the Khmer people. The Khmer language has about 15 million speakers.

Khmer is written in Khmer script which now contains 33 consonants. In addition to Khmer, the script is also used to write Pali in Cambodia and Thailand. The history of Khmer script can data back to 611 AD, which is found at Angkor Borei, however, the modern script has some obvious differences with the script on old inscriptions. Different styles of writing may be used for different purposes in Khmer. For example, for titles and headlines, a calligraphy style called Âksâr mul, literally, round script, is used. for normal text in books or newspapers, an oblique style called Âksâr chriĕng is used. While in English or other languages, the oblique style may function as emphasis, it is not the case in Khmer. The Unicode range for basic Khmer is U+1780-U+17FF, for additional Khmer symbol is U+19EO-U+19FF.
