Mad font here refers to the font used  for the logo of Mad, which is an American humor magazine founded in 1952 by editor Harvey Kurtzman and publisher William Gaines.

A font named Madfont by Harold’s Fonts was created to imitate the lettering. Madfont is available in 3 styles, Regular, Thorns and Bars, each with a rather complete character set. You can download it for free here.
