Christian Schwartz designed Popular typeface for Popular Mechanics, as used for its nameplate. According to the designer, Popular was designed as a type series with the no-nonsense engineering charm of the DIN spec, yet enlivened with structure from the strong slab serifs Stymie, Memphis & Rockwell.
