Balmain is a fashion house that was founded by French fashion designer Pierre Balmain in 1946.

The Balmain logo features an inline serif decorative font named Smaragd. Designed by Gudrun Zapf von Hesse for D. Stempel AG in 1952, Smaragd is a hand-tooled, all-caps titling face with hairline serifs. The “PARIS” in sans serif beneath is set in Gill Sans.
