The European Commission is an institution of the European Union, responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the EU treaties and managing the day-to-day business of the EU.

The EC logo, according to the EC website, consists of 2 key elements: the European flag and a graphic element inspired by the headquarters of the European Commission. The standard logo features the wordmark beneath the main graphic logo. Greek type foundry Parachute’s Square Sans Medium is the typeface used for the wordmark.

Panos Vassiliou from Parachute created Square Sans Pro in his quest for a true squarish text typeface which could balance simplicity with vitality and enhance with its subtle power the identity of any product or service, without compromising its characteristics as a text typeface. The sans-serif family consists of 12 fonts—from extrablack to thin—including true italics.
