About Gangs of New York Font

Set in the mid-19th century in the Five Points district of New York City, Gangs of New York is a 2002 American epic period drama film, inspired by Herbert Asbury’s 1927 nonfiction book of the same name.

The font used for the film title in the poster is Bordeaux Bold. David Quay designed the serif to exhibit characteristics commonly seen in the typefaces of the Romantic era, the period which produced the novels of Victor Hugo, the music of Berlioz and the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Bordeaux displays the emotive quality one associates with the times.
