- Double-struck, also known as blackboard bold or outline, began as a way to mimic bold lettering when writing with chalk on a blackboard.
- The style eventually found its place in mathematical notation. Later, on typewriters, it was recreated by typing the same character twice in the same position, hence the name “double struck.”
