Football Association of Ireland Font

About Football Association of Ireland Font

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) was founded in September 1921 as the governing body for association football in the Republic of Ireland.

The font used for the FAI logo is very similar to Colmcille. Gaelic typographer Colm O’Lochlainn designed Colmcille and Monotype released it in 1936 for composition casting. The design intention was to provide a Gaelic looking type which worked well as a roman text face. The digital version has been made in collaboration with the designer’s son, Dara O’Lochlainn.
