I Love NY Font

About I Love NY Font

I Love New York is an advertising campaign for the New York City. The trademarked logo was designed by Milton Glaser and has been used since the 1970s to promote tourism in New York City.

The logo consists of the capital letter I, then followed by a red heart symbol, and beneath the letter I and the heart symbol are the capital letters N and Y. The font used for the three letters is very similar to a rounded slab serif called American Typewriter designed by Joel Kaden and Tony Stan in 1974. American Typewriter is a commercial font and you can purchase and download it here.

In March 2023, a WE ♥ NYC campaign was launched to promote the city as it bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic. The new logo, created by graphic designer Graham Clifford, reads “WE ♥ NYC” in a bold sans serif typeface instead of the typewriter style face. The logo seems to use Helvetica Black.
